Video thumbnail mismatch between Dynamic Media and DAM Card View in AEMaaCS

In AEM as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS), video thumbnails differ between Dynamic Media (for example, Asset Details Page) and the Digital Asset Management (DAM) UI (for example, Card View or Asset Properties dialog). This article explains the cause of this mismatch and how to align the thumbnails.

Issue/Symptoms

After uploading and publishing a video asset:

  • The thumbnail visible on the Asset Details Page and via Dynamic Media URLs is the consistent. For example:

    https://author-env-name.adobeaemcloud.com/ui#/aem/assetdetails.html/content/dam/path/to/video.mp4
    https://<scene7-domain>.com/s7viewers/html5/VideoViewer.html?asset=<company-folder>/video-name
  • However, the thumbnails shown in Card View and Asset Properties are differ from those generated by Dynamic Media. For example:
    https://author-env-name.adobeaemcloud.com/ui#/aem/assets.html/content/dam/path/to/folder
    https://author-env-name.adobeaemcloud.com/ui#/aem/mnt/overlay/dam/gui/content/assets/metadataeditor.external.html?item=/content/dam/path/to/video.mp4

Cause

  • Card View and Asset Properties display thumbnails generated by the DAM, not by Dynamic Media. These are static renditions (for example, cq5dam\*, such as cq5dam.web.1280.1280.jpeg) created by Asset Compute during asset processing. For example:

  • This is expected behavior in AEM as a Cloud Service. Dynamic Media does not overwrite these static thumbnails.

Resolution resolution

To align the affected asset’s DAM thumbnail with the one from Dynamic Media:

  1. Open the affected asset’s Asset Properties page.
  2. °ä±ô¾±³¦°ìÌý Change Thumbnail.
  3. Select a video frame or upload a custom image.

This updates the thumbnail in both the DAM UI and Dynamic Media views.
