Locators fail to start on AEM Forms 6.5.23 with JDK 8 or JDK 11
After updating to AEM Forms Service Pack 23 in a clustered environment, locators fail to start using the gfsh
script. This issue occurs because a newer version of Gradle is now used in AEM Forms SP23. To resolve the issue, start locators using JDK 17 and servers with JDK 8 or JDK 11.

ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓÆµ Experience Manager (AEM) Forms 6.5.23
Issue/Symptoms
- Locator startup fails when executing the
gfsh
script on JDK 8 or JDK 11. - Error message displayed: UnsupportedClassVersionError during locator initialization.
- A newer Gradle version introduced in AEM Forms SP23 requires JDK 17.
- Locators do not start due to incompatibility with older JDK versions.
Resolution resolution
To resolve the issue, follow these steps:
- Install JDK 17 to start Locator Servers, and ensure JDK 8 or JDK 11 is available for AEM Forms JEE.
- Start Locator Servers using JDK 17.
- Start Application Servers using the same JDK version (JDK 8 or JDK 11) previously used for AEM Forms JEE.
