Get Started for System Administrators get-started-sys-admins

As a System Administrator for ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ Journey Optimizer, you establish the foundational setup that enables your organization to create and deliver personalized customer journeys. Your responsibilities include system configuration, user management, and governance, ensuring seamless platform operation for all stakeholders.

Your Role as an Administrator

Before using ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ Journey Optimizer, ensure that you prepare the environment by completing several essential steps. These steps allow the Data Engineer and Journey Practitioner to use ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ Journey Optimizer effectively.

As a System Administrator, you manage roles, assign permissions for sandbox administration and channel configuration, set up sandboxes, and ensure that team members have appropriate roles.

Getting Started Checklist

Certain administrative tasks require Product administrators with access to the Permissions product. Learn more about Permissions.

1. Configure Environments

Configure your working environments to establish a structured and secure setup:

  1. Create sandboxes to partition instances into separate, isolated virtual environments. Sandboxes provide controlled spaces for development, testing, and production workflows. Learn more in the Sandboxes section.

    note note
    NOTE
If the Sandboxes menu is not visible in Journey Optimizer, update your permissions. Learn how to update your role on this page.
  2. Understand roles. Roles define specific access rights for users within the platform. For example, a role may allow a user to manage journeys or configure messaging channels. Learn more in the out-of-the-box roles section.

  3. Set permissions for roles, including Sandboxes access. Assign roles to team members based on their responsibilities. Permissions consist of unitary rights grouped under capabilities, such as Journey or Offers, which represent functions or objects in Journey Optimizer. Learn more in the Permission levels section.

Additionally, add users needing access to Assets Essentials to the Assets Essentials Consumer Users or Assets Essentials Users roles. Read more in Assets Essentials documentation.

NOTE
For Journey Optimizer products obtained before January 6, 2022, deploy ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ Experience Manager Assets Essentials for your organization. Learn more in the Deploy Assets Essentials section.

2. Configure Messaging Channels

Messaging channels enable the creation of journeys and message delivery. When accessing Journey Optimizer, your production sandbox and IPs are based on your contract.

To configure messaging channels, navigate to the ADMINISTRATION menu and select the Channels menu. Define message presets and channel configurations from this menu.

NOTE
If the Channels menu is not visible in Journey Optimizer, update your permissions in the Permissions product.

Follow these steps to set up messaging channels:

  1. Configure messages and channels: Define and customize settings for email, SMS, and push notifications.

    • Set up push notifications settings in both ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ Experience Platform and ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ Experience Platform Launch. Learn more.

    • Create channel configurations, which are message presets specifying technical parameters for email, SMS, and push notifications. Learn more.

    • Configure the SMS channel to set technical parameters for SMS messaging. Learn more.

    • Manage retry attempts for undelivered emails before adding addresses to the suppression list. Learn more.

  2. Delegate subdomains: For every new subdomain used in Journey Optimizer, delegate it to ensure proper configuration. Learn more.

  3. Create IP pools: Group provisioned IP addresses into pools to improve email deliverability and maintain sender reputation. Learn more.

  4. Manage suppression and allowed lists: Use suppression and allowed lists to enhance deliverability.

    • A suppression list excludes problematic email addresses from deliveries. These include invalid addresses, consistently soft-bouncing addresses, or recipients with spam complaints. Suppression lists protect sender reputation and delivery rates. Learn how to manage the suppression list and retries.

    • An allowed list ensures that only specific email addresses or domains receive emails from a sandbox. This is particularly useful in testing environments to avoid accidental delivery to real customer addresses. Learn how to enable the allowed list.
